In 1978, General Tōjō, prime minister during WW2, and other war criminals were enshrined here. That"s why this place is full of controversy, specially when top politicians and prime minister visit it.

This shrine, while beautiful is wrought with controversy because it honors the dead who fought in wars, some convict of war crimes. Worth a visit regardless.
