This is a photo I processed and took during Astronomy Camp 2006 at Steward Observatory on Mt. Lemmon in Tucson, AZ. I got the luminance (detail) exposures from the 60" telescope and I used the Hubble image for color. I cleaned up asterisms, subtracted a flat field, and then I combined the exposures to create this shot.
The color doesn't cover the full field, but using the Hubble color is nice because it brings out background galaxies (red smudges).
Idea to shoot M101 came from Adam Block. Thanks, Adam.
